I spent time in the Creative Solutions booth at NAB 2019 with Greg Smokler talking about SmallHD’s new Cine 7 monitor. This monitor features the familiar 7” form factor you may know from other SmallHD monitors, such as the 702, but adds some great new features including a touchscreen, high maximum brightness (1800 nits) and DCI-P3 color reproduction.

It’s always a ton of fun to hear Atomos CEO Jeromy Young talk about his company’s new products. Our NAB 2019 discussion, beginning with the new display technologies Atomos has integrated into their just announced Shogun 7 monitor/recorder, was no exception.

New from Atomos is the Shinobi, a lightweight 5.2” on-camera HDMI monitor with a touchscreen and 1000 nit maximum brightness level. Just 1” thin and weighing a mere 7 oz (without battery), the Shinobi takes square aim at the under-$500, thin and light on-camera display market, while packing some serious pro-level heft. Equally lightweight is Shinobi’s price: only $399.

I was excited to get my hands on the new TVLogic F-7H 7” HDR Field Monitor, having read about its 1920x1080 resolution display and extremely powerful backlight. In fact, the F-7H boasts an eye-watering 3,600 NIT maximum brightness that makes it the brightest 7" screen on the market right now, besting TVLogic’s previous models by over 1,000 NITs.

Recently I had the chance to take a closer look at the SmallHD 1303 HDR monitor. This 1500 nit 13” 1080p monitor is exceptional for field work. In this video, I take a look at the build, menu set up, and LUT functionality. 

The Teradek Serv Pro has become a favorite for on-set wireless video monitoring. The Serv Pro is not unlike the original Teradek Cube in that it is a video encoder allowing for video streaming over a network. The Serv Pro is specifically built for on-set use to quickly and easily deliver video to an iOS or Android device via Teradek's free VUER app.

The SmallHD OS3 update is the largest single rollout of new features for SmallHD monitoring solutions to date. Compatible with almost all of their monitors, it adds a ton of new features to their product line.
