NAB 2019: Atomos Shogun 7

It’s always a ton of fun to hear Atomos CEO Jeromy Young talk about his company’s new products. Our NAB 2019 discussion, beginning with the new display technologies Atomos has integrated into their just announced Shogun 7 monitor/recorder, was no exception.

The Atomos Shogun 7 uses a new zoned array LED backlight with an IPPS panel, which allows for much more true-to-life image display as well as high contrast ratios (>1000:1) and the ability to accurately monitor an HDR signal from a camera in real time. Additionally, if you’re shooting RAW or Log-encoded video, the Shogun 7 can take that signal in, analyze it, and output an appropriate SMPTE 2084 PQ (also known as DolbyVision) signal based on arbitration with the downstream monitor. This feature is also available on the recently released Atomos Ninja V.

For more of my discussion with the irrepressible Jeromy Young, be sure to watch the video above.
