The folks from Cartoni stopped by the other day to show us their new JIBO compact jib. What struck me right away was its modular design. The jib is made up of three sections, so assembly is fast and easy. Conveniently, all three sections fit into a portable wheeled case.

The latest firmware for the F3 was just released a few days ago, and it adds a great new option. Version 1.40, which can be download here, adds S-Log into the Picture Profile menu of the camera. This allows anyone to turn on S-Log without the RGB key, although you still need the key for 4:4:4 output.

With the updated firmware on the FS100 many people have also been asking about new Scene Files for the camera. One of the more common questions I'm asked is, "What's the difference between uncompressed video, Raw, and Log recording?" With so many cameras these days offering different recording options, combined with the popularity of external recorders, it's no wonder there are a lot of questions about this topic.

Canon provides several De-Log LUTs on their website that are meant to convert Canon Log back into REC709 or video gammas. These files can be found on Canon's website but can be tough to use, because they are given in 1D LUT format as a simple CSV (comma seperate value) file.

We stopped by the OConnor booth to check out their latest products, including their updated 1030D head. The 1030D has an impressive counterbalance system that gives accurate balance at any point of the tilt range. It will also counterbalance down to zero, which is great when working with lighter-weight camera systems.

This year at NAB, Panasonic gave us an idea of what they have in store for the future, and their future, like many others, is 4K. The concept 4K VariCam was under glass at the show, but we also got to see it backstage and get some more information about what it may be one day.
