The Canon C100 is very popular with run-and-gun operators in the documentary world, and Canon recently announced an upgrade for the C100 that allows for continuous tracking autofocus with Canon's entire EF lineup. The upgrade will also increase the speed of the camera's existing one-shot autofocus by around two times and provide an AF lock, which will enable the user to change the image framing while keeping the desired focus point, a feature that is especially useful for run-and-gun filmmakers.

The HDx35 Mark II is an optical adapter manufactured by IB/E Optics that allows you to put B4-mount 2/3" HD lenses onto Super-35 sensor cameras. This enables the use of high-quality, long-range HD zooms with the latest generation of digital cinema cameras. The new Mark II edition has a larger image projection to fully cover the large sensor of the Canon C100/C300/C500 cameras.

The PIX240 is a popular external recorder that offers Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD recording codecs. An already powerful recorder, Sound Devices expanded on the capabilities earlier this year with the Aurora firmware update, adding ProRes 12-bit 4444 over 3G-SDI.

One of the advantages of the C100 sharing a sensor with the C300 and C500 is the interoperability between scene files. While the C300 and C500 can share profiles with a bit of simple computer know-how, if you want to use those same profiles on the C100, you'll have to manually copy the settings. I took our C300 scene files and copied the settings to the C100 - our vectorscope confirmed that the profiles are nearly identical, although the C100 tends to be slightly less saturated.

Last month I showed you how to set up the Ki Pro Quad with the Canon C500 to capture 4K ProRes files. Today I'm going to go over how to capture Canon RAW (up to 59.94p) using the Ki Pro Quad's Thunderbolt pass-through function and AJA's CamXchange software.

Our customers are always asking for "the perfect camera", one that fits all of their needs and then some. Most new cameras today have features that set them apart from each other and sound great on paper, but when it comes time to go into production the camera needs to be a solid tool that preforms a required task.

The two Canon Compact Cine Zoom lenses, 15.5mm-47mm and 30mm-105mm, offer high performance with great flexibility. They each cover an extended range in a small, lightweight package. Both lenses focus very closely and do not distort the image throughout their range. Even with fast T2.8 apertures, they offer high resolving power with excellent contrast.
