I visited the Tiffen booth to speak with Robin Thwaites, International Director of Sales, about two new products that had their first showing at IBC: the Pilot 2 and the SteadiMate.
One of the most exciting announcements out of this year's IBC show was DJI's reveal of their new Zenmuse X5 series. The Zenmuse X5 is a Micro Four Thirds camera upgrade built specifically for the Inspire 1 aerial platform.
Sony has just announced the newest member to their large sensor 4K camera family, the PXW-FS5. Bridging the gap between the Sony NEX-FS700 and the PXW-FS7, the PXW-FS5 brings a smaller form factor while retaining many of the features of the FS7.
Vision Research has released the long-anticipated support for ProRes 422 HQ recording for the Flex4K camera platform through a free firmware update. This update also includes audio recording which allows a stereo AES/EBU signal to be fed to the camera.
RED's WEAPON 8K camera, announced at this year's NAB show, has many people excited. RED has always pushed the boundaries of digital cinema, and the WEAPON 8K is another great example of this. The most interesting, and perhaps confusing, aspect of this new camera is the size of its sensor.
There's been yet another major firmware update to Convergent Design's Odyssey7 series of external monitors/recorders. This time the focus is on monitoring, routing/distribution and, especially, LUTs (Look Up Tables).
I stopped by the ARRI booth at Cine Gear to speak with Mike Wagner, Senior Product Manager, about the new SkyPanel, a fully tunable LED soft light that compliments Arri's L7-C fresnels.
