This combination makes for a powerful multi-track recording system. It's perfect for owner/operators who may need to record their own audio, in addition to their camera duties, and it is especially helpful in situations where there are numerous mics and talent to be recorded.
The SL6 is bolted together on top of the 688 and with wireless receivers hooked into the SL6, everything can be controlled through the 688 Field Mixer. The 688 features MixAssist, which is a very intelligent speech gate that automatically turns off mics that are not being talked into and then turns them back on when they are in use. This easy-to-use feature maintains a consistent background level when multiple microphones are in use and opens only one mic per sound source for the best speech reproduction. With SL-6, up to three wireless receivers and the 688 can be powered off one battery. There is also a DC output on the back of the unit. The 688 Field Mixer records WAV files onto a CF card.
The 688 has the capacity to record discrete/ISO channels, as well as a mix down, and this can all go on a CF or SD card. There is also an option to record only the mix onto an SD card as an MP3 file or a timecode stamped MP3 file.
Look for another blog from me soon where I will show you how to use this system.
