A few months ago, Andy wrote an article for HDVideoPro called Making 4K Plug & Play about how to use the Canon C500 with AJA's Ki Pro Quad to easily record and monitor 4K video. Getting these two to play nice isn't too difficult, but there are a few things to be aware of if you want to get the best results possible.

It seems like this is a popular week for firmware upgrades! As promised several months ago, Canon has officially released the much-awaited firmware update for the 5D Mark III that enables a clean HDMI output.

Today Canon announced a 35mm CN-E cine-style prime lens to complement its complete line of optics for cine production. The 35mm fills the current gap between the 24mm and 50mm focal lengths.

Canon is introducing two new lenses to their lineup of Cine Primes, which currently includes the 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.3 and 85mm T1.3. This prime set has now been expanded on both the wide angle and telephoto ends with a 14mm T3.1 and a 135mm T2.2.

While the Mark II started as a still camera that conveniently shot video, it's apparent that the 1D C was built with filmmakers in mind. As the first HDSLR with 4K and LOG recording capabilities, the 1D C introduces new possibilities for productions of any size.

Canon has released their very easy to use Cinema RAW Development software for Mac OS Lion and Mountain Lion, which allows you to ingest, play, and export Canon RAW files.

Since the Canon EOS C300 and C500 share the same sensor and offer identical internal recording options (MXF), many folks have asked us if our C300 custom picture settings are compatible with the C500. After investigating, we've discovered that with a little bit of work, the picture profiles are interchangeable between cameras.

Canon has paired its recently released lightweight cine zoom, the CN-E 30-105 T2.8, with the closely matching CN-E 15.5-47 T2.8 Cinema Zoom. Like its sister, the 15.5-47 weighs just 4.85 lbs. Both lenses also share a 300-degree rotation on the focus scale for many precise marks, 11-blade irises, 114mm front diameters for fitting to common matteboxes, and 105mm front filter threads for use when a mattebox is not an option.
