Sony Reveals New AXS Media for Raw Recording on the F5 & F55

Ahead of NAB, Sony has announced new AXS media for the AXS-R5 Raw recorder, which is designed to work with the F5, F55, and the FS700. These new cards have been shrunk in size from the original AXS 512 GB card (AXS-512S24), and are now the size of standard SxS cards.

The new A-Series cards also run cooler than the older ones, which could get quite hot at times. Sony is selling two versions of the new card, in 512 GB(AXS-A512S24) and 1 TB (AXS-A1TS24) sizes - great news for anyone wanting longer Raw recording times.

Sony's new cards come with an adapter to work with the AXS-R5 and the AXS-CR1 (USB-3 card reader). Like their predecessor the cards are fast enough to record 4K up to 60p and 2K up to 240p, with a guaranteed write speed of 2.4 Gbps. Both sizes are expected to start shipping soon, and the original 512 GB card has now been discontinued.

This update definitely shows Sony's continued focus on the F5 and F55. We're sure there will be more exciting news coming up, so stay tuned for our coverage at NAB this year!
