Last month I showed you how to set up the Ki Pro Quad with the Canon C500 to capture 4K ProRes files. Today I'm going to go over how to capture Canon RAW (up to 59.94p) using the Ki Pro Quad's Thunderbolt pass-through function and AJA's CamXchange software.

Our customers are always asking for "the perfect camera", one that fits all of their needs and then some. Of course, there is no such thing as the perfect solution for everyone; however, there are some key requirements that we hear all the time. Most new cameras today have features that set them apart from each other and sound great on paper, but when it comes time to go into production the camera needs to be a solid tool that preforms a required task.

4K was the definitive buzzword at NAB this year, as well as CES, with a number of manufacturers releasing 4K televisions, 4K game systems, and 4K cameras. With the consumer demand for 4K content just around the corner, one of the most often asked questions is "How much is this gonna cost us?!"

A few months ago, Andy wrote an article for HDVideoPro called Making 4K Plug & Play about how to use the Canon C500 with AJA's Ki Pro Quad to easily record and monitor 4K video. Getting these two to play nice isn't too difficult, but there are a few things to be aware of if you want to get the best results possible.

The latest issue of HD Video Pro magazine features an article I wrote about the future of 4K video solutions. We have all heard of 4K RAW solutions, but there are those of us who want the 4K resolution, without some of the unique challenges of RAW. In this article I describe how the Canon C500 can be used with an external recorder like the AJA Ki Pro Quad to record and output 4K video.

I stepped over to the Canon booth today to get a little hands-on time with the Canon C500. The camera has many of the same features found in the C300, but with the addition of 4K output. The camera can output a 4K RAW video stream up to 60p in 4096x2160 mode, and 120fps in 4096x1080 mode. It can also output a quad HD signal for monitoring.
