I recently sat down with cinematographer John Matysiak to discuss his experience shooting the tense and beautiful western Old Henry. In this wide-ranging conversation, we talked about his creative inspirations, as well as his technical approach to the film, which was captured on the ARRI ALEXA Mini.

ARRI has released SUP 7.0 for their popular ALEXA Mini LF camera system. The update includes some long-awaited features, with new dedicated Super35 recording modes that match those found on the original ALEXA Mini. In most cases, these new modes can achieve higher maximum frame rates than the original ALEXA Mini. There are new LF (Large Format) recording modes, an expanded list of framelines and anamorphic squeeze factors, and a number of other enhancements as well.

We asked the team at Paxeros Creative, winners of the ARRI Inspiration Challenge last year, to share their stories of getting started in the industry, winning the challenge, and how they've been putting their ALEXA Mini to use on some of their recent projects.

Today ARRI announced a brand new camera in their popular ALEXA lineup. The ALEXA Mini LF is the companion camera to the full-bodied ALEXA LF. This LF (large format) ALEXA Mini has the same 36 x 25mm 4.4K sensor as the ALEXA LF, but now in a much smaller form factor. The new camera has the same basic footprint as the ALEXA Mini, but with some significant differences.

In my latest video, I talk about the new Beachtek DXA-ALEXA for the ALEXA Mini. As you may know, audio input to the ALEXA Mini is via a Mini 5-pin connector on the front housing, while audio into the camera is line level only. This presents operators with a challenge getting their mic level signals into the camera.
