Today, Canon announced the new C700 FF, an update to their flagship C700, which sports a brand new 5.9K (38.1 x 20.1mm) sensor for cinematic, full format imagery. A new Canon CN-E 20mm T1.5 L F Cinema Prime covers the camera's full sensor and fits beautifully with other lenses in the family.

Canon's latest firmware for the C300 Mark II, version 1.1.0.1.00, adds support for additional EF and EF-S lenses. Even more importantly, it also adds support for the LM-V1 Monitor that was originally introduced with the EOS C200.

I took the Canon Compact-Servo 70-200mm T4.4 cine zoom lens to the 606, the park and trail that connects 2.7 miles of Chicago, to take a real, in-the-field look at the lens. It was just before golden hour and the 606 was packed with bicyclists, joggers, kids, and dogs, the perfect environment to test the lens.

The Canon Compact-Servo 18-80mm T4.4 lens is the newest release in Canon’s extensive lens lineup. The lens was designed to bridge the gap between their EF still zooms and their cinema zooms, blending features from both form factors. This lens fills an important space for documentary cinematographers looking for a small, inexpensive lens with high functionality on a wide range of shoots. The zoom range of the lens is great for all-around verite shooting, covering the most-used standard focal lengths.

The Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm made some waves when it was released in 2014. Finally, we had an ENG-style servo lens with a long zoom range for Super 35 sensors shooting in high resolutions. This made a lot of people happy in the documentary and TV world, eliminating the need to carry multiple lenses and bringing us back to broadcast camera / lens design. Many will remember the excitement surrounding Canon’s release, in March 2010, of a firmware update for the 5D Mark II which added 24p to the camera’s already ground-breaking video mode (the 5D Mark II was the first “full-frame” DSLR with 1080p video recording).
