Panasonic has announced the new VariCam LT, the little brother to the VariCam 35. This new "Lite" VariCam incorporates the same Super 35 sensor and quality imaging of the VariCam 35, but with a much reduced size, weight, and price point. That means you get the same 14+ stops dynamic range capabilities in V-Log mode, wide color gamut, and dual ISOs of 800 & 5000.

For Steve Holleran, a camera has always been a means to capture the beauty of the world. After using Zacuto's Gratical EVF on a few shoots recently, I wanted to take a more in-depth look at the exposure tools and LUT functions that can be extremely valuable on set. I already knew I liked the versatility of the viewfinder and the user-friendly interface, but I wanted to see how these advanced tools could benefit my image and my set.

Panasonic just released a VariCam Camera Simulator for their VariCam 35, VariCam 35 with Codex V-RAW recorder, and VariCam HS. This is a great tool to familiarize yourself with the VariCam's functions before a shoot, troubleshoot a question from on set, or simply study up on the camera's functionality.

For sports, nature or any other application requiring an extremely long zoom range, equipment choices usually involve very large, heavy, and expensive lenses. While S35 sensor cameras brought huge improvements in sensitivity and dynamic range, the larger image circle posed several problems when looking for a portable lens with a high zoom ratio. However, it's now possible to achieve an extended zoom range in a considerably smaller package.

Convergent Design has been busy updating the firmware for the Odyssey7Q and 7Q+. They've had several firmware updates over the last couple of months, all with some major changes and additions.

At IBC this year, Teradek released their new COLR wireless LUT box. This compact system can take in HD-SDI or HDMI and output a video signal with a Look Up Table (LUT) applied.

RED has just announced their newest digital cinema camera body, the SCARLET-W, which represents the next step up in the RED family. The SCARLET-W also features RECODE RAW and ProRes file formats but is a bit more feature rich than the RAVEN with interchangeable lens mounts and greater resolution. At at a lower price point than the WEAPON, it ideal for those who only need 5K resolution.

One of the surprise announcements from this year's NAB show was the Canon XC10, a 4K-capable camera with the ability to capture both stills and video. What is especially striking about this camera is the picture quality, as well as its unbelievable size.
