IBC 2014: Convergent Design Odyssey7Q Gets 4K ProRes Recording

Convergent Design's upcoming firmware for the Odyssey7Q will add 4K ProRes 422 HQ recording, giving users an alternative to Raw workflows and allowing for hours of record time in this industry-standard codec.

With the new update, Odyssey7Q users will now be able to record the 4K output from the Sony F55, Phantom Flex4K and Panasonic GH4 into 4K ProRes. Additionally, the 7Q will be able to take the Raw output from the Sony FS700 and Canon C500 and record it to 4K ProRes. At 24p, a 7Q with two 512GB Odyssey SSDs can capture 194 minutes of 4K.

While recording in 4K, the 7Q can also output 1080p video for on-set monitoring and video transmission. It also features non-destrutive de-logging LUTs for cameras that output LOG signals.

The new firmware is due out later this month, and just as with past updates, it will be free for all Odyssey7Q owners. For more information, make sure to read Convergent Design's official announcement
