Today RED updated their flagship camera bodies – V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR XL – to new ‘[X]’ versions featuring their latest 8K VV sensor and adding a global shutter, the first in a large-format camera system. These new [X] versions combine advancements from across the RED ecosystem to create twin powerhouses of frame rates, low-light performance, and resolution, housed in their battle-tested, modular V-RAPTOR and all-in-one V-RAPTOR XL bodies. Additionally, RED has introduced a new first-party electronic viewfinder for their DSMC3 cameras, which connects with a single cable and provides control of shooting frame rate, shutter, white balance, and ISO directly from the unit.

In my latest video, I take a look at the RED V-RAPTOR XL, RED's new purpose-built studio camera. This new flagship camera takes everything you love about RED and adds new features that DPs and camera assistants have been requesting. I look at the camera's dual voltage battery support, integrated I/O for large productions, and the new electronic ND system, which I demonstrate with some sample shots.

It's official. One day after RED CEO Jarred Land teased some tantalizing images on his Instagram account, RED has launched their latest 8K digital cinema camera, V-RAPTOR. Featuring a new form factor (the first in the company's new DSMC3 line), a locking variant of Canon's RF lens mount, CFexpress 2.0 Type B media support, dual SDI outputs, and a new multi-format sensor similar in configuration to RED's MONSTRO sensor, the new camera system is a powerful and elegant optimization of RED's camera DNA, clearly incorporating design cues from their popular 6K KOMODO body.
