Zeiss has just starting shipping their new CZ.2 28-80 Compact Zoom lens. This lens joins their family of Compact Zooms, which also contains the 70-200 CZ.2 and their newly announced 15-30 CZ.2. The Compact Zoom lens family is similar to the Compact Primes in that these zooms cover the large full frame sensors that are found on cameras like the Canon 5D Mark III, 1D C, and also the large sensor area of the Red Epic Dragon at 6K. They also have interchangeable lens mount systems (PL, EF, F, MFT, E). These features make the lenses unique in the zoom world, as well as future-proof.

There is no denying that anamorphic has come back in a big way this year, and it is more accessible than ever. With the increase of anamorphic glass in the market and the 4:3 sensor of the ALEXA Plus 4:3, more filmmakers are able to find an affordable way to get the anamorphic look.

This year at IBC, Zeiss is previewing the newest member of the Compact Zoom family. Joining the award-winning CZ.2 70-200 T2.9 and the CZ.2 28-80 T2.9, the new CZ.2 15-30 T2.9 features a compact and lightweight design at just under 10" long and weighing in at 5.7lbs.

Back in August of last year, Zeiss announced the newest member of its compact zoom line, the CZ.2 28-80 T2.9.

Zeiss has begun deliveries of their first Compact Zoom, the CZ.2 70-200 T2.9. This lightweight lens is a sister to the Compact Prime lens family, which means that it shares versatile traits such as Full Frame 35mm coverage (it'll cover the Canon 5DM3 and 1D C) and professional cine style gearing and marking.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II undoubtedly kicked off the large-sensor-in-a-small-body movement, so it's no surprise that Canon would carry this momentum forward with the EOS-1D C. While the Mark II started as a still camera that conveniently shot video, it's apparent that the 1D C was built with filmmakers in mind. As the first HDSLR with 4K and LOG recording capabilities, the 1D C introduces new possibilities for productions of any size.

Zeiss has carried on the tradition of the Super Speed family with its latest additions to the CP.2 line. These new T1.5 lenses come in 35mm, 50mm and 85mm focal lengths and share many of the same features as the other CP.2s, including a 114mm front diameter and interchangeable mounts.

Sony's new PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 cameras build upon the popular PMW-F3, and feature a Super-35mm size sensor with 2K and 4K recording options. Both the F5 and F55 are suitable for many different styles of production and can be customized with lenses and accessories to make them even more versatile solutions. Some of the existing accessories for the F3 are interchangeable with the F5 and F55, but the new form factor means some support accessories will be unique. A great deal of interest was generated at NAB by the announcement of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, a 2.5k-capable (2432x1366) camera that records directly to SSDs. Recording 2.5k content as CinemaDNGs or 1080 HD content as ProRes or DNxHD, the Cinema Camera certainly offers some unique possibilities at an affordable price point.
