I recently got to spend some time with a Sony VENICE camera body running a beta version of firmware version 4.0 and, of course, the first thing I did was to run through the new high frame rate recording modes to see where each "maxes out" in terms of frame rate.

The Sony VENICE has been out for a while now and has quickly become a popular camera for feature films, television series, and a wide range of other applications. The VENICE produces great looking images, as it should, and it also offers a very good post workflow. Sony has been improving their workflows for years, and after many iterations, they really nailed it down in the F55. The VENICE builds on this even more and does a great job of keeping things simple.

Sony has just announced that firmware version 3.0 for their flagship camera, the full format VENICE, is now available. If version 2.0, released in June of 2018, got the VENICE fully firing on all cylinders, this update seeks to refine the camera’s ease of use while nicely expanding its capabilities. We got to take a look at what’s included in the update—and there’s a lot—so let’s dig into the details.

I recently had a chance to work with one of our camera service technicians to take a closer look at all of the field-serviceable aspects of Sony's popular VENICE full format (full frame) cinema camera.

Recently, AbelCine hosted back-to-back Tiffen Steadicam workshops here in our Brooklyn office, and we noticed students were really cozying up to the Sony VENICE. They enjoyed taking this particular payload for a test drive on their Steadicam rigs, getting in some trigger time “flying” Sony’s flagship digital cinema camera.

It's been nearly 10 months since the Sony VENICE camera first became available, and in the last few months it has really started to take flight. Demand is skyrocketing for both sales and rentals of the VENICE. Because of this, and because it is such a great camera, we thought it was time to give you a deep dive video on just how it works.

With the advent of firmware version 2, the VENICE now allows the import of custom 3D LUTs. This opens up endless possibilities and gives VENICE users the ability to always have access to custom looks.

Sony recently released firmware version 2.0 for their VENICE camera. The firmware download also includes an update for the AXS-R7 RAW recorder, which mounts to the rear of the camera body. In order to use the R7 with a VENICE camera running 2.0, the recorder's firmware must also be updated to version 2.0. The AXS-R7 uses a different update procedure than the camera body; instead of an SD card, a USB thumb drive is used.
