Canon announced today their new C700 Cinema Camera, the XC15 4K video/still camera, and two new 4K production monitors. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to Canon's Jesse Mineo about these exciting additions to the Canon line, as well as the DP-V1710 and DP-V2420 HDR reference monitors.

The ARRI SMB-2 is an extremely flexible 4"x 5.65" studio mattebox. In this blog, I'll take you through some of the key features of the product, giving an in-depth look at how to assemble and configure the mattebox.

Canon's newest firmware update (1.0.4.1.00) for their C300 Mark II camera contains a number of nice improvements to the camera's features and functionality. One of the updates that caught our eye is the inclusion of a new logarithmic gamma curve, Canon Log 3, available from the Custom Picture menu.

As we've done for so many cameras before, we're back again with more scene files. This time I've tackled the new VariCam LT, matching looks to our tried and true JR45CINE and JR45VID (I even used an HPX2700 to match back to), as well as a high saturation look, and even an ALEXA look.

ARRI's line of Electronic Control Systems are popular accessories to use with many cameras, especially the ALEXA Mini.

The Panasonic VariCam 35 has been called the "workflow camera," as it offers multiple internal recording formats that can really speed up your workflow. The camera can capture a 4K or HD V-Log master, while at the same time recording both HD and proxy for instant dailies. The VariCam LT has the same function, but with just a 4K or HD master and a proxy recording.

Jonathan Barenboim is a director and cinematographer; sometimes, depending on the project, he's both simultaneously. On his latest project, for a series called The Table launching later this summer, he was tasked with bringing to life short documentaries highlighting the human side of the unemployment crisis in the US. Because of the documentary nature of these pieces, he had to be ready to travel quickly and shoot in varied locations, all with the same basic camera setup. Jonathan was kind enough to answer a few questions about how he pulled it all off.
