The new Phantom Miro line and its flagship M320S are the latest groundbreaking high-speed cameras from Vision Research. With a small form factor, affordable price point, uncompromised image quality and ultra high-speed capability, they make high quality high-speed accessible to more professional image-makers than ever before.

It's been another exciting year in our industry, with lots of evolutionary and revolutionary changes. Many of the trends we've seen coming for the past several years came to fruition in 2011, leaving some to wonder what comes next. Let's take a look back and see if it can help inform us a bit on what's to come in 2012.

ARRI's latest lighting innovation is the L7 series of LED-based Fresnels. The line is made up of three fixtures: the L7-T (3200K tungsten-balanced), the L7-D (5400K daylight-balanced), and the L7-C (color-controllable). The L7-C can be adjusted from 2700K-10000K, with an additional green/magenta control. It also features a "Hue Mode" for theatrical color effects.

The ARRI ALEXA has become so popular that many clients are asking to use it in ways outside of the traditional Digital Cinema market. Documentary and ENG-style productions, long the playground of 2/3" cameras, are now beginning to use the ALEXA. With this demand, AbelCine has worked to adapt the camera to the style of "One Man Band," everything-on-the-camera shooting.

Our NAB booth included the PMW-F3 with the new S-Log firmware from Sony installed. I was very impressed with what the new mode added to the camera and was delighted to show it off to guests in our booth. Some of our friends at Next Level Pictures stopped by, and I gave them a short demo. They were so impressed with the effect that they asked to take the camera out for a quick test, which I agreed to. Twenty-four hours later they came back with a plan to take Vegas by storm, and the result was an amazing test of the F3 and S-Log.

This week Sony announced their new NXCAM Super-35, aka the FS100. This little camera has the same sensor as the PMW-F3, but with the feature set and price point of the NXCAM line of cameras. The FS100 has a small body design, not much larger than an HDSLR, but Sony packed in all the features that we find in a regular video camcorder.

Zeiss's eagerly anticipated CP.2 lenses, with interchangeable lens mounts, are here! These revolutionary lenses offer Zeiss's superior optical quality in an EF mount that makes them the ideal choice for HDSLR shooters, and the new lenses are more affordable than ever.

Today Zeiss announced pricing for their new Compact Prime Series 2 lenses. With mount interchangeability between PL, EF and F, these lenses are not only more versatile, but also the price has been significantly reduced, making them even more affordable.

Those of us who have been around awhile are marveling at the rate of development our industry is experiencing at the Digital Cinema level right now. It may be that future bloggers (can we call them "Floggers"?) will look back at this time in the history of Digital Cinema and declare it a unique era of technical fertility and creative vision.
