Since we last spent some time with the ALEXA LF, ARRI has made a couple of updates to the camera. They have also partnered with battery manufacturers to provide power solutions for the camera. From Hawk-Woods, we have their 26v Reel-Power battery and plate that can accommodate the LF's high power draw, which can peak at 15+ amps and 120+ watts dissipation. More recently, ARRI has worked with Bebob to develop high-load batteries, which are also backwards-compatible with traditional V-mount or Gold mount systems. We expect a dual battery plate, or "sharkfin," from both manufacturers in the future.
Lastly, ARRI has listened to their customers in the weeks since the LF's announcement and will be adding one or more Super 35 recording modes in a future firmware update for maximum flexibility with existing lenses
NAB 2018 was dominated by the industry-wide move to larger, full format camera sensors, also called "full frame" or "VistaVision." We have all of the new full format cameras in our booth: ARRI's ALEXA LF, Canon's C700 FF, the RED WEAPON MONSTRO VV, and Sony's VENICE. It's really exciting to see the industry move, en masse, to this new format, which we think will define the future of digital cinema over the next several years.
