Features include 4K UHD recording, a process for delivering high-end resolution for your production, and ProRes 4444 up to 60 fps. I also headed over to the Arri booth where I spoke to Marc Shipman-Mueller, Product Manager, about the new ALEXA SXT family of cameras. There are three new cameras, the ALEXA SXT EV, SXT Plus and SXT Studio models, replacing the current ALEXA XT camera, though the classic EV model will remain in the lineup. These cameras keep the 3.4K ALEV III sensor of previous ALEXAs while adding new electronics to improve image processing, pixel correction and noise reduction.
The improvements to the SXT include:
- 4K ProRes with two options, 3.2 to UHD and 3.4 to DCI 4,096
- Color management with Pomfort LiveGrade software allows live grading of CDLs in camera
- Rec 2020 color space support
- 3 outputs - Log C, 709 Clean, and 709 with overlay display
ARRI is also offering an SXR (Super Xtended Recording) Module upgrade to owners of existing ALEXA XT, XT Plus and XT Studio cameras. This upgrade will deliver all the features of the SXT cameras. Additionally, there are adapters available for the new SXR capture drives, 1 or 2 TB, and a similar adapter is available for the older XR capture drives, including the 512 GB. The first ALEXA SXT cameras are planned for release around mid-2015.
