Overview
High-resolution cameras and lenses require analysis tools that are more informative than the legacy charts commonly used today. The inherent limitations of star-like patterns make it extremely challenging to determine accurate, repeatable measurements of any cameras and lenses that resolve 2K, 4K and higher. AbelCine has designed a system that solves this challenge. The Cameo Focus Bowtie Chart provides many additional evaluation capabilities for camera techs, camera assistants, and equipment owners.
The Focus Bowtie Chart includes:
Discrete, Logarithmically Progressed Frequencies - for accurate, easy-to-read focus of all focal lengths and all resolutions
Colors – provides colors correlating to the (6) primary and secondary axes on a vector scope, as well as skin tones
Insert Slate – silk-screened insert slate on back, suitable for use with dry-erase markers.
Features:
- Measures 9.15 x 7.15" (23.2 x 18.2cm)
- Designed for checking focus in any environment
- Ideal size for transport in AC bag or accessory case
Using the Chart
With the Cameo Focus Bowtie Chart in frame, as you turn the focus barrel on the lens and reach the point of optimum focus, the image will “pop,” with the circular patterns becoming more defined. You’ll see greater detail; the image will be sharper and have higher contrast. When the lens is optimally focused, you will see high contrast in the coarser patterns and maximum detail in the finer patterns. Also, the image as a whole will show a minimum of chromatic artifacts, which are seen as colored fringes on the edges of black lines.
The band of colors under the focus pattern can be a handy reference for color matching between scenes or between cameras. The colors are designed to represent the (3) primary and (3) secondary colors, as well as flesh tones.
