The name Mole Richardson is certainly no stranger to the production environment, and you're likely to find some Mole lights on any set you visit.

At NAB 2012, Kino Flo introduced their Celeb 200 variable color LED fixture. This year, it's all about the Celeb 400 and, as you can probably guess by the name, it is twice the size of the 200.

Last year, we posted about the TruColor HS and how it utilizes Remote Phosphor Technology (RPT) to eliminate the color-accuracy limitations of other LED fixtures.

In our industry, most people hear LED lighting and think of small low-power lights that can be mounted on a camera or stashed in a corner. What does not generally come to mind is "high output," as most people believe that large tungsten or HMI units are still the only choices for real punch.

At our recent AbelCine EXPO: Innovations in Lighting, cinematographer David Mullen, ASC spoke about the more unusual lighting challenges from some of the feature films and television series he has photographed. Kino Flo introduced a new light at NAB 2012, and, for the first time, it's not a fluorescent. The Celeb 200 is a variable color LED fixture, about the size and output of a Diva 400.

The TruColor HS from PRG has more than twice the output of a 2 kW incandescent soft light. Additionally, it delivers an extended Color Rendering Index (CRI) over 95, generates a 160-degree beam spread, and uses only 400 watts of AC power.

Last year, Hive Lighting showed us a prototype of their plasma light technology. Now Hive has debuted a lineup of production fixtures: a fresnel, par, sealed par pair, and even a retrofit kit for ellipsoidal fixtures.

ARRI's latest lighting innovation is the L7 series of LED-based Fresnels. The line is made up of three fixtures: the L7-T (3200K tungsten-balanced), the L7-D (5400K daylight-balanced), and the L7-C (color-controllable). The L7-C can be adjusted from 2700K-10000K, with an additional green/magenta control. It also features a "Hue Mode" for theatrical color effects.
