Our annual Post-NAB event that we held in NY earlier this week was a success — we had a great turnout and more gear than ever before. Our booth presentations were a big hit at this year’s NAB show. Featuring a range of topics from HDR and cinematography tools, to livestreaming and branded content, panelists included working cinematographers, technology specialists, industry experts, and more.

Zeiss has had a line of reasonably priced cinema zooms for a few years now, but the introduction of the Zeiss LWZ.3 21-100mm takes things up a notch. The 21-100 covers a much longer focal length range than any of their other lenses, and is more than a pound lighter than its predecessors.

Canon’s CN-E Compact Zooms have been a great addition to documentary cinematography since their release five years ago. The image quality is superb and is a great choice for higher-end productions. They offer a comfortable size and weight, with a fast, consistent T2.8 aperture. This pair of lenses offers a great focal length range that will cover you in most shooting situations. I stopped by the Sony booth, where Joseph Schimizzi talked me through their recent updates. A big focus for Sony this year has been increased support for HDR, and with these updates they are making the technology much more accessible to a larger base of users, and a wider audience.

At the Miller booth, I spoke with Joseph White about Miller’s new Skyline 90 Fluid Head.

I chatted with Paul Hawxhurst about the new updates from Canon. As you might have heard, they are releasing a Canon Log update for their popular DSLR camera, the 5DIV. Customers have been asking for this, and Canon listened. This upgrade must be performed by a Canon factory service center and will cost around a hundred dollars.

I caught up with Les Zellan of ZGC and Cooke Optics to hear all about their new S7/i “full-frame plus” lenses, a new front-anamorphic zoom, and a new variant of the Anamorphic/i primes with modified coatings to provoke more cinematic flare.
