Canon has added two new zoom lenses to their digital cinema lens lineup. Previously, we reviewed the 14.5-60mm (T2.6) and 30-300 (T2.95-3.7) lenses. Now Canon has added two lightweight versions designed for handheld work.

Yesterday, we showed you the Cabrio 19-90mm Zoom that is featured on the PMW-F3 in our NAB booth. Fujinon is also showing a companion lens, the Cabrio 85-300mm T2.9 zoom, at their booth.

Zeiss has expanded their CP.2 line with a 15mm T2.9 rectilinear lens with full frame coverage, as well as a 135mm T2.1 portraiture lens. They have also released the first lenses in their super speed series - 35mm, 50mm and 85mm, all of which feature an aperture of T1.5.

Fujinon announced the release of their new convertible Cabrio 19-90mm T2.9 zoom lens last week.

With HD-SDI and HDMI inputs, peaking, zebras and a 3.5" 960x640 resolution panel, the Alphatron EVF035W-3G Electric Viewfinder will work well on any compact HD camera.

Zeiss today announced their new Compact Zoom, a 70-200 T2.9. The Compact Zoom covers not only Super-35, but in fact the full frame 36mmx24mm format, just like the Compact Primes.

Canon supplied one of the first production CN-E 30-300 Cinema Zooms for AbelCine's optical technicians to evaluate. We put the lens through our usual battery of tests, and we were very impressed. The 30-300 has excellent contrast and sharpness, with very low flaring and high corner-to-corner resolution and brightness.

Fujifilm's Optical Devices Division today announced their latest entry into the 35PL lens market, the Fujinon 19-90 T2.9 Cabrio zoom lens. The name Cabrio is a reference to small convertible sports cars, aka Cabriolets. The lens is both physically compact, at less than nine inches in length, and a feather-weight, at less than six pounds, making it the longest focal range handheld lens available. But the Cabrio allusion also extends to the included removable handgrip/zoom rocker servo.

Last year in our booth at NAB, AbelCine showed a prototype of the new Canon CN-E 14.5-60 T2.6 Cinema Zoom lens. We were very impressed at the time, and in recent private testing, were even more pleased. Now that the release version is shipping, AbelCine's optical technicians have put this new PL-mount zoom through a battery of evaluations, and we are very excited by the results.
