NAB is upon us, and while we are already seeing lots of new announcements, the show itself will be filled with even more surprises. We often get asked what to expect from the show and what you should check out.

Canon has just unveiled the much-rumored C300 Mark II, adding to the expansive Cinema EOS family. Positioned between the original C300 and the C500, the C300 Mark II incorporates several features that expand the usability and breadth of the platform.

Canon's Cine-Servo 17-120, with its versatile zoom range and 31.7mm image circle, has proven to be popular with our clients. However, depending on what camera you are shooting with, there are extra items to take into consideration, such as adapters, power options, support, and more.

A few months ago, Canon introduced their new CN20x50 IAS lens, which features an impressive focal range of 50mm-1000mm at T5.0 to T8.9. A Super 35mm lens with this focal length and zoom ratio is very rare, but it certainly has many applications in sports and nature documentary situations. The lens is 4K-ready, with an image circle of 31.4mm, and is available in either a PL or EF mount. It also features a 1.5x multiplier for additional reach of 75mm-1500mm.

Back in October Canon announced the C100 Mark II, the successor to the original C100. While keeping the same Super 35 sensor as the C100, the new model offers a number of welcome upgrades to image quality and functionality. We're now starting to see the first few shipments of the Mark II, so in the video above, I spend some time exploring these updates.

The Canon C100 and C300 have had One Shot Auto Focus as a factory default feature for some time. As long as users had an auto focus capable lens, auto focus could be activated with one of the assignable buttons.

At AbelCine we hold a lot of events aimed at helping still photographers move into the world of cinematography or add video to their creative tool kit. These "Stills To Motion" events are focused on the art of cinema, as well as the latest camera technology. At one such event, we discussed the RAW and Log modes in the Canon EOS C500, as well as the wide cinema gamut found in the camera. Many of the photographers in the room weren't as familiar with these concepts and asked that we translate the terminology into something they could better understand.

Last month we celebrated our 25th anniversary as a company with a party at our LA location. Over 400 people attended the event, which included raffles, a silent auction, a Phantom Photo Booth, lunch and a bar, as well as a number of panel discussions on different topics, from technology to craft.
