The Steadimate-S also allows gimbal aficionados to move in the direction of a full Steadicam rig while banishing one of the most persistent artifacts of gimbal-based footage: the dreaded “bounce.” While gimbals do a great job of stabilizing footage along the pan, tilt and roll axes their brushless motors address, the “fourth axis,” that of vertical bounce (such as when walking backwards to cover a subject in a document-follow project), has been notoriously hard to dial out of many gimbals. In addition, the Steadimate-S helps alleviate fatigue from long days of handheld gimbal operation.
Check out the video above for more on this latest evolution of stabilization technology from Steadicam and Tiffen, now compatible with the DJI Ronin-S and the Crane 2, Crane Plus and Crane M models from Zhiyun.
