ZEISS CP.3 and CP.3 XD is a ten lens prime set ranging from 15mm - 135mm. The Cinema Zooms are 15-30mm, 28-80mm, and 70-200mm. With a lens coverage of 46.3, all of these lenses will cover full format, 8K Vista Vision, and Super 35. All primes but the 15mm and 21mm open to T2.1 (the 15-21mm are 2.9); the Cinema Zooms are T2.9. Both the primes and zooms have a 95mm front diameter and support mounts integrated into each lens. Focus and iris rings are in the same position between focal lengths, making changing lenses seamless in terms of accessories and balancing. Offering five lens mounts, these primes and zooms are user interchangeable between PL, EF, E, F, and MFT. All focal lengths have the clean, crisp look that ZEISS is known for. The CP.3s have improved T* coatings for even better levels of contrast, improved color rendering, and flare resistance.
The XD (eXtended Data) versions of these lenses, using the Cooke/i protocol, are able to communicate 16-20 different attributes (i.e. aperature, focal length, hyperfocal distance etc) about the lens through the PL mount, or for those cameras that don't have this connection the lenses have an external port as well. Unique to ZEISS, this will also include lens shading and distoration data; information that is key for VFX, compositing, etc. On set, you can view the metadata in a compatable camera and this information is recorded in the recorded file.
