What's new is a laser-based rangefinder system that can accurately read and report distance data up to 200 feet away. Additionally, it can actually control the focus system, which means it can be used for auto focus, perfect for applications such as cranes, gimbals and drones. Subjects can also wear a small electronic tracker which will keep that person in focus. Focus distances can be offset, for example, to keep a subject's eyes in focus even though the tracker may be on their belt or in a pocket.
Motor drive units can be neatly stacked thanks to multi-pin connections on the top and bottom of each unit. In addition to Movcam's own motors, these units are also compatible with Heden digital motors, with support for additional digital motors planned for the future.
Availability of these updates, including the rangefinder auto focus system, is set for the end of May. See the video above for more info, and also check out my earlier blog on the Movcam wireless lens control system if you missed it.
