AbelCine's Magic Hour is an afternoon mixer that brings tech, communities and craft together over drinks and great conversation. It's is a great opportunity to meet up with your fellow creatives and experience emerging technology in a fun, unstructured setting.
Our next Magic Hour, on Friday, February 15, will focus on the Sony VENICE as well as the exciting updates that have recently been announced, from fimware v3.0 and the VENICE Extension System to the announcement of version 4.0 with HFR (high frame rate) license, and more. Additionally, we'll be screening some new VENICE footage, and a special guest DP will be on hand to do a live demo. We will also be featuring the new Angenieux Optimo Ultra 12x FF/VV!

This Week's Technology Focus
Sony VENICE
The new flagship of Sony's CineAlta family, the Sony VENICE CineAlta 6K Digital Cinema Camera (6K with 6048x4032*), offers an interchangeable PL or E-Mount, built-in filters in 8-stages, 15 stops of exposure latitude, a wide color gamut and improved color management system. VENICE's compact form factor suits gimbal, aerial, handheld, and studio setups. The Sony VENICE also boasts a 24.7MP Full Frame CMOS sensor with a maximum resolution of 6048 x 4032*. (*NOTE: Firmware upgrade required for 6K.)
Sony Sensor Extension System
Sony's Sensor Extension System for VENICE is a lightweight and easy-to-use tethered extension system that allows the camera body to detach from the image sensor block with no degradation in image quality. The cable system can extend from 9' to 18' (with an included extension cable) which enables the VENICE to become highly mobile and discreet for many mounting configurations and filming scenarios, including use with gimbals, handheld stabilizers, underwater & helicopter housings, 3D/VR rigs, and tight or unconventional spaces (such as inside vehicles, on cranes or Russian arms).

Leland Krane is a New York based Local 600 ICG Director of Photography with over twenty years of experience in film and television. He moves from operating camera on a dozen major TV productions, including The Americans, Bull, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and High Maintenance, to shooting shows for History, Discovery, Investigation Discovery and Comedy Central. He shoots and directs promos and commercials which air in the US, Europe and online.
Leland's feature cinematography credits include more than a dozen films, with stars such as Academy Award winning actress Melissa Leo, Elizabeth Banks, Frank Vincent, Dabney Coleman, Vincent Pastore, and Ali Larter. Most recently he shot for William Brent Bell, Director of "The Boy" both additional photography and second unit. Also in 2018, second unit for "Stano" and "Iron First."
Leland's work has been recognized by American Cinematographer, Indiewire, and the Wall Street Journal. He has taught Cinematography at The New School, SUNY Purchase, and guest lectured at NYU and the High School for Film and Television.
