Overview
The Tiffen Soft FX 1 Filter - 4x5.65 takes a different approach to reduction of image sharpness and resolution by dispensing many different strengths of oval lenslets within the laminated glass. The image is affected differently than, for example, the acid-etching technique of a digital diffusion filter.
Due to the size and distribution of the internal lenslets, light is bent more uniformly across the image, resulting in more evenly dispersed softness. Resolution is reduced to a greater degree at a lower density. The overt effect of this process is that the spread of bent light from the lenslets in the heavier densities produces a slight halation around practical and specular light sources.
