Overview
The Schneider True-Streak Yellow 2mm Filter - 4 x 5.65 re-creates the classic anamorphic streak effect without the use of expensive anamorphic lenses. Long, brilliantly colored streaks emanate from bright lights and highlights. While the apparent strength of the filter effect is dependent on variables such as distance to (and size/intensity of) light sources, as well as the focal length of the lens, the spacing comparison chart (see images) illustrates the relative differences in a given situation between "strengths" or "spacings" of True-Streak filters ranging from 1mm (strongest effect) through 4mm (most subtle).
This metric measurement refers to the distance between the lines in the filter, which are actually very narrow-diameter cylindrical lenses embedded in the glass. As with any filter featuring a discrete pattern, care should be taken that these lines do not come into focus. This is most likely to occur when using a short focal length lens at a small aperture, and when the subject is close to the camera. It is recommended to test the effect before any critical use.
