Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 2x Macro Probe Lens (Cine-Mod Version) - PL Mount

The Laowa 24mm f/14 2X Macro Probe is the world's first consumer-grade probe lens which focuses from 2:1 macro to infinity, with a compelling wide angle "Bug Eye" perspective. The wide angle design means much greater depth of field at close distances than is possible with a conventional telephoto macro lens, preserving more background detail. The front barrel of the lens is waterproof with an integrated LED ring light is mounted at the tip of the lens. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: The LED is powered via an external battery (sold separately). Due to high demand, it may be temporarily in limited supply.

This probe can cover both standard 35mm full frame & Super35 image sensors and is very lightweight for easy field use. ARRI PL (included), Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony FE, and Pentax K mounts (sold separately) are available.  This "Cine-mod" version features standard gear focus and aperture rings, specifically designed for macro cinematography (also available in EF Mount).

The probe includes a white USB cable dimmer (with power adjustment), black USB cable (no power adjustment), lens bag and rugged aluminum carry case.

Bug's Eye Perspective with 2:1 Macro to Infinity Focus

Macro lenses in the market tend to have a long focal length (60mm to 120mm) and the subject fills most of the frame, isolating it from the surrounding environment. The Laowa 24mm allows you to achieve remarkably close focus (0.8"/2cm @ 2:1), preserving a great amount of detail and texture. At the same time, you can enjoy a compelling, wide angle (84.1°) "Bug Eye" view so that more of the background details can be included in the shot. You can easily create a stunning macro perspective that no other lens can achieve.

Take advantage of the 2:1 maximum magnification to shoot very small insects and reveal details that cannot be seen with the naked eye. The probe is particularly useful for videographers, as both fine detail and environmental backgrounds can be captured in one shot.

Deep Depth of Field

The wide angle design also means much greater depth of field at close distances (compared to a telephoto macro lens). Being able to focus at very close distances while retaining deep depth of field is a great advantage for both studio and wildlife photography.

Long, Tubular Lens Barrel

Thanks to the 15.7" (40cm) barrel, the user can focus very close to the subject while keeping the camera and operator at a reasonable distance. This feature is very useful for photographing a frog hiding in the bushes without leaves blocking the shot, or shooting footage of a poisonous reptile from a safe distance. The tubular lens barrel also enables shooting dolly shots through tiny apertures and in compact spaces. Imagine being able to slide the lens between candles on a birthday cake, or inside a drink bottle. These are just two of many examples where the Laowa 24mm Macro Probe offers unique advantages over standard macro lenses.

Tiny Lens Tip & Waterproof Front Barrel

Lighting a macro subject properly is not always an easy task. Typical macro lenses have large lens barrels (at least 60mm or more in diameter), which blocks much of the light from hitting the subject. The Laowa probe features a 20mm diameter lens tip, making it easy to achieve sufficient illumination. The small tip allows the user to get really close to a subject, or very low to the ground to capture a perspective that maximizes visual impact. Insert the probe into caves, bottles, burrows, or small, wet holes to capture unique footage (thanks to a waterproof front barrel design). This design also means that shooting in dusty environments or with fine powders is no problem.

LED Ring Light

An LED ring light (powered by an optional external battery) is embedded in the lens tip to provide additional lighting for focus assistance. In most cases, the more lighting you have on your subject, the better your shot will look. An included variable-output control cable allows you to adjust the light output of the LED.

Full Frame Coverage

The Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe can cover both a standard 35mm full frame & Super35 image sensor.

Lightweight & Easy to Carry

Despite an unusual profile and long tubular design, the Laowa probe is actually very lightweight and easy to carry, weighing just 1.04 lb (474 g).
