Overview
The Panasonic AU-XPD3 Memory Card expressP2 Drive with Thunderbolt 3 delivers data transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps and process 4K at 120fps and HD at 240fps. The AU-XPD3's compression technology can create a faster broadcast workflow for your broadcast offloading needs.
This memory card drive offers the highest transfer rate of 10 Gbps when used as a single drive. Our very own Ian spoke with Panasonic at NAB 2017 and shared the interview in a video blog. In this interview, they discussed performance of offloading a 512GB card (AVC-Intra 4K 4:2:2 24p) in approximately seven minutes. If you daisy chain two units together at 17.6 Gpbs it takes approximately eight minutes with 1TB of data across two cards (AVC Intra 4K 4:2:2 24p).
2x Thunderbolt 3
The drive contains two Thunderbolt 3 port which offer speeds 8x faster than USB 3.0 and with 4x more video bandwidth than HDMI, according to Intel. This thin port can connect with existing USB devices and cables. It also allows you to daisy chain up to six devices.
MostMac or PC computers support Thunderbolt3.
The Drive
The AU-XPD3 is an upgrade of the AU-XPD1 with a larger size drive unit. A large fan installed in the rear of the drive box assists the AU-XPD3 to reduce overheating issues. Thunderbolt 3 ports on the drive are reversable, meaning that you can flip the cable either direction in order to insert it. No more reaching behind a rack and blindly trying to connect in only one direction.
