In 2013, the Sony α7 series of mirrorless cameras launched with a limited number of lens choices with FE mounts. Sony customers like you spoke up to demand a quality f/2.8 zoom and a f/1.4 prime. Design changes from past Sony lenses, which enhanced the G Master family, include combining focus groups with independent actuators to deliver smoother focusing. That unique design delivers smoother focusing to effectively correct aberrations across the full aperture range.
Sony understands that focusing accuracy is paramount. The 5-axis image stabilization on α7 series cameras pairs well with the XA (Extreme Aspherical) Element in G Master lenses to deliver a crisp and high-resolution image. 5-axis Image Stabilization (IS) accurately compensates for blur caused by camera shake from five different directions (vertical, horizontal, pitch, yaw, and roll), as opposed to only two directions in previous systems. This translates to improved image capture when you walk or run. The XA Element also produces a beautiful bokeh. Some G Master lenses include two ED (Extra-low-Dispersion) glass elements to reduce chromatic aberration.
The α7R II and α7R III include a Fast Hybrid AF system to further enhance your focus ability. The α7R III also features Doubled AF tracking, even during continuous shooting at up to 10 fps.
Circular aperture blades enhance the beautiful bokeh of the G Master lenses. Several of the G Master lenses feature 11-bladed apertures, the most of any Sony lens. The addition of an XA Element improves the ability of your Sony α7 camera to capture the atmosphere of your subject and shooting environment. As mentioned previously, the G Master is designed for extreme sharpness and beautiful bokeh. The optic design also helps to minimize artificial coloration.
The internal design does more than protect your image capture abilities. Not only are the G Master lenses dust and moisture-resistant, to perform well in challenging shooting situations, the G Master lens family also features a fluorine-coated front element to help prevent dust and grease marks on the lens surface. Their ability to withstand the test of time and the rigors of production is reflected in the internal components of the G Master lenses. Future versions of the α7 cameras will expand to larger megapixel sizes. Since G Master lenses incorporate a minimum resolution of 50 line pairs per millimeter, your lens choice now will benefit you down the road when cameras expand to larger sensors.
When using the α7R III 35mm Full Frame Camera with Auto Focus, you also enable high-resolution 4K movies and support HDR workflows. The advantages of the camera and G Master lens combination will help carry you forward to future-proof your purchases.
