We Stand in Support of Black Lives Matter

We have reached an incredibly poignant time in our history. The senseless murder of George Floyd and so many others, evokes deep sadness and anger.

At AbelCine, we believe it is important to be clear about where we stand on the glaring and incessant issues of systemic racism, disinvestment and violence that are disproportionally impacting black communities. This has gone on for far too long and it is inexcusable that it continues to exist in our country and throughout the world. We stand in support of the Black community in NY, CHI, LA, and across the country, and demand societal change that is long overdue. We urge that all of us share this responsibility and serve as an example for others to folllow.

We are here to listen and apply what we've learned to create positive change. As it has become exceptionally clear, words of support mean very little if not backed by action. Therefore, we pledge the following:

  • A company donation to the NAACP and the Innocence Project.
  • To continue to engage BIPOC filmmaking organizations and communities.
  • To offer more free community events to amplify the voices of BIPOC filmmakers and creatives. We also aim to be more thoughtful in our event programming, working to highlight diverse voices from all areas in our industry, both above and below the line.
  • To continue to create diversity within our workforce and partnerships, and to create more space for BIPOC voices.
  • To self-reflect on our organizational processes, as well as our own personal biases to influence positive change.

We must do everything in our power to dismantle racism and bias. When we are silent, we fail ourselves and our neighbors.

Black Lives Matter.

Sincerely,

Pete and Rich Abel
