Howard Preston invented the original Light Ranger, an automatic laser focus system, back in the early '90s and at this year's Cine Gear Expo, his company, Preston Cinema Systems, debuted the Light Ranger 2.
In manual mode, the Light Ranger 2 graphically divides your monitor into 16 different zones, which dynamically change to indicate when your subject is in focus. It also features a powerful autofocus mode, which allows the user to specify a custom target focus area. To see a demonstration of the Light Ranger 2 in action, watch my interview above with Howard at the Preston booth.
