Our next Gear & Schmear will be happening on Thursday, March 22 around the theme of camera movement. We can't wait to see you so be sure to RSVP today!
This Month's Technology Focus
In today's production environment, camera movement becomes as important of a choice as sensor size, lighting, or lenses. With so many options - from simple stabilization gear to more professional gimbals and beyond - cinematic camera movement has become more accessible for all filmmakers.
At this Gear & Schmear, AbelCine Camera Technology Specialist Nic Somera will present a short overview of modern camera movement, with a special focus on Freefly Systems MoVI family (11:30am - 12:00pm). Before and after the presentation, we invite you to share some bagels, network, ask questions, and get your hands on the gear in our showroom.
Freefly Systems MoVI M5, MoVI Pro, MoVI XL, Movi
The MōVI M5 applies Freefly's industry-leading stabilization technology to a system that delivers amazingly smooth footage in even the most demanding situations. Highly refined software and ultra lightweight construction define the MōVI M5, a stabilizer tuned for the latest DSLR video cameras and lenses packages weighing under 5 lb. Long days requiring a variety of innovative shots becomes second nature and leads to results that simply wow the client. Professional build quality and industry-leading technology are now accessible to filmmakers facing any kind of project.
The Freefly Systems MoVI Pro features a redesigned structure which improves performance and adds capabilities to increase usability, convenience, strength, and adaptability. Those familiar with the MoVI M10/M15 will enjoy the familiar ability to execute eye-level shots without much fatigue, to fully integrate with the camera and accessories, plus execute diverse shot types (hyperlapse, timelapse, motion control, mimic, etc.). You will also retain smooth footage due to MoVI’s 3-axis lens control. Gimbal setup is an easy process with this device. Utilizing a 3-axis compass for accurate heading information, the world's smallest 3-axis lens control built into the camera stage, and silent sine drive technology, the MoVI Pro includes the bells and whistles required to ramp up your gimbal work.
The Freefly Systems MoVI XL is a lightweight, portable, handheld gimbal system that allows users to capture stable imagery in the most demanding environments. MōVI XL is built to interface with the entire Freefly ecosystem, which means you can use MIMIC or MōVI Controller for gimbal pointing or camera control and hand the Pilot off to your 1st AC for FIZ control. MōVI XL is designed to mount in underslung or overslung mode without build reconfiguration, simply by flipping the roll axis over. Fast pack-down and easy setup allow you to focus on the creative aspects of filmmaking. Freefly designs all motors in-house to exacting specifications. This results in motors that are lightweight without sacrificing peak power, optimized for cooling under load. Custom motors, drives, and high power batteries allow MōVI XL to hit speeds of up to 100mph (160km/h) without sacrificing control or stability.
The Freefly Systems Movi Handheld Stabilizer provides a way for you to tell moving stories with your smartphone. Movi's 3-axis stabilization technology was developed from the gimbal stabilizers Freefly uses in thier professional rigs. The functionality was modified to suit a smaller, more portable camera rig that uses the camera on your phone. The Movi allows you to walk or run and retain stable footage. For iPhone users, it also interfaces with your iPhone and a free Movi iOS App for special modese and features.
