Overview
Join us at AbelCine's Magic Hour, an afternoon mixer that brings tech, communities and craft together over drinks and great conversation.
Magic Hour is a great opportunity to meet up with your fellow creatives and experience emerging technology in a fun, unstructured setting.
Our next Magic Hour, on Friday, June 15, will focus on Canon's new full-frame cinema camera, the C700 FF. They will also be showing off their new CN-E 20mm Cinema Prime and Canon technical specialists will be on hand to answer questions. Canon's 4K reference displays, the DP-1710 and DP-2410, will be on display as well. Additionally, Canon's C700 FF reel will be screening in our theater so you can get a chance to see what the footage looks like when projected in 4K.
We can't wait to see you, so make sure to RSVP now!
This Week's Technology Focus
Canon C700 FF
The new Canon C700 FF digital cinema camera features a full frame CMOS sensor designed to meet an extensive range of production needs. The camera's full frame sensor provides higher resolution and produces footage with shallower depth of field than Canon cameras with Super 35 sized sensors to provide filmmakers with a variety of creative options.
The EOS C700 FF is capable of ProRes and XF-AVC internal recording up to 4K to CFast cards. With the optional Codex CDX-36150 recorder, the EOS C700 FF is capable of recording 5.9K RAW up to 60 frames per second. When oversampling 5.9K in 4K/UHD recording, moiré is suppressed and noise graininess improved. This results in higher quality video compared to native 4K image capture. The EOS C700 FF also offers a wide array of 2K/UHD/HD recording options, including recording up to 168 fps in 2K RAW in Super 16mm (crop) mode. This camera includes Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF) technology (EF mount only), and has a dynamic range of 15 stops.
Canon CN-E Lenses
The Canon CN-E Cinema Primes offer a compact, consistent lens design and proven Canon lens elements for performance and reliability in professional shooting environments. Sharing the same gear position, diameter and rotation angle, and front diameter, the Cinema Prime’s compatibility with third-party accessories allows crews to easily change lenses without making adjustments to the rig.
Intended for the working professional, the Cinema Primes have markings on angled surfaces on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from either side or behind the camera. Focus markings can be changed from imperial to metric. The control rings are engineered to maintain the proper amount of resistance with consistent operating torque. Designed to fulfill contemporary 4K production standards, Cinema Primes features a full-frame imaging circle in a lightweight, compact design. These lenses feature an 11-blade aperture diaphragm with beautiful bokeh, and innovative optical construction which counteracts barrel expansion and contraction to avoid temperature-induced marking discrepancies. These compact, lightweight lenses were designed to meet the optical requirements for emerging 4K digital production image formats (from both ITU and SMPTE).
