Overview
ARRI UDM Display Unit indicates distances measured on its transflective screen, allows for menu settings and adjustments, plus can coordinate with optional control units.
Range Limits
THe UDM Display Unit lets you establish measuring ranges for your UDM Sensor Unit. Measurement ranges approximately 1' 4" to 33' (0.4 to 10 meters). You can establish feet or meters on the Display Unit, set exclusion of objects that are irrelvant for a required focus pull in convoluted or confusing scenarios, plus interact with optional wireless and wired control systems for your lens and motors.
Display Unit UI
A large control wheel on the Display Unit allows easy setting of the UDM parameters, supported by a set of status LED indicator lights. Push the wheel to select an item on the LCD menu or turn the wheel to change value selection. Follow the detailed instructions in the product manual to establish Parameter Settings, Operation Settings, and both Depth-of-Field and Focus Tracking.
There are five LED indicator lights on the face of the Display Unit with specific values/meanings:
- Sense - sucessful measurement is shown by a steady green LED
- Film Plane - film plane offset adjustment mode indicated by flashing yellow LED
- Sensitivity - adjustment mode with a blinking yellow LED
- Limit - yellow blinking shows value setting mode, while steady light refers to limits set to other than maximum or default value
- LDS-DOF - multiple settings are indicated:
- steady light when object is within the calculated depth-of-field range
- blinking light for object outisde of DOF range
- no light showing will indicate no camera depth-of-field signal is available
Display Unit provides the selection of feet or meters with a small toggle located under the LCD Display Screen.
Mounting
Mount your UDM Sensor Unit with the included 3/8" UNC bushings on your standard supports. You can also use an optional Universal Mounting Arm.
System Integration
Measure the focus range from your camera sensor plane to your subject with the UDM Sensor Unit (sold separately on in a kit with link below) then control settings and adjust relevancy with a coordinated focus pull, using motorized and wireless control options. When combined with an optional Universal Motor Controller UMC-4 or your WCU-4 Wireless Compact hand unit, you can set the focus motor to follow measured distances of a subject in frame in conjuntion with the UDM Sensor Unit and UDM-1.
You can also enable automatic focus tracking when you pair the UDM system with your ARRI Lens Data System or LDS lenses. Please refer to the Instruction Manual for details on LCS Setup vs. Standard Setup.
NOTE: Display Unit cannot function on its own. You will need to purchase separately the ARRI UDM Sensor Unit and a 5' UDM Sensor Cable. If you prefer, ARRI combines these together as an optional complete set.
You will also need to purchase a compatible supply cable for your ALEXA or AMIRA camera, or other digital camera, to complete the set. Please speak with your AbelCine Salesperson with questions about which cable suits your precise camera configuration.
