AbelCine Rental and ARRI Provide Equipment Support to Up-and-Coming Directors at Prestigious Workshop
The Directors Lab was held May 30 – June 13, 2023, at the Sundance Resort, where a group of ten filmmakers had the opportunity to create scenes from their work-in-progress screenplays. Creatives associated with the Sundance Institute were on hand to provide advice on key topics, such as directing actors, refining dialog, and developing a visual language.
“At AbelCine we believe in supporting the next generation of filmmakers,” said Tom Digges, AbelCine’s Rental Business Manager. “We are happy to have been a small part of the success of the 2023 Directors Lab by providing Sundance Institute with this equipment loan, and we look forward to seeing the future work of these filmmakers.”
The partnership came about after Emma Pillsbury, a Rental Agent in NY, was approached by Holden Payne, Technical Director of Exhibition and Production at Sundance, about AbelCine providing accessories to support the 2023 Festival. From these conversations, came the idea of increasing AbelCine’s previous support of the Sundance Labs. In 2022, AbelCine had provided lenses for the Labs, coordinated by AbelCine Rental Agent Eric Yee, and in 2023 that was increased to a full sponsorship through an in-kind donation of all the support gear and accessories for the Directors Lab.
